Equine Assisted Awareness

Learning and Psychotherapy

Kathy Krupa

Horsetime Inc. is the first organization offering certified equine assisted psychotherapy services (EAP) Equine Assisted Learning and Awareness in New Jersey and has unmatched experience providing EAP to a wide array of clients.

68% of the horse industry in New Jersey is comprised of theraputic, recreational and pleasure horses. The bond between horses and people has been around for centuries, they took us into battle, plowed our fields and acted as our primary form of transportation.  These highly sensitive animals are able to sense our every emotion. Their immediate reaction to our behaviour make them excellent therapists, allowing for  direct observation of behavioral and emotional responses.

Equine Assisted Psychotherapy

EAP is a collaborative effort between a licensed therapist and a horse professional.

Participants learn about themselves and others by participating in activities with the horses, and then discussing feelings, behaviors and patterns.

The focus of EAP involves setting up activities involving the horse, which will require the client or group to apply certain skills.

90% of EAP takes place purely on the ground.

Non-verbal communication, assertiveness, creative thinking, problem solving, leadership, taking responsibility, teamwork,  confidence and attitude are several examples of the tools utilized and developed by EAP.

How It Works

What unfolds is a metaphorical re-enactment of the problem for which relief is being sought.

Clients are able to create new solutions for their old behavior.

Horses are able to give clients immediate feedback to situations.

Client becomes instantaneously aware of when they are succumbing to old inadequate behavior.
